What Does Success Look Like

What is your measure of success? God looks at our Agape resume, not what our culture defines success to be.

(new sermons published every Monday)

What is success according to God’s Word? Our culture is always attempting to define and redefine what success is. For some it is wealth, others popularity, others climbing the corporate ladder, and yet others it fame or what they create. Jesus teaches us with the example of his life what true success is—He loved unconditionally. 1 Corinthians 13 gives us a clear picture of what that unconditional or “Agape” love is. God looks at our Agape resume as a true measure of success.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11

Discussion Questions

  • Our culture defines success through rank, net worth, or achievements. What are you currently “measuring” as success?
  • Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-8. Which characteristics of Agape love are currently your biggest challenges, and which ones are your greatest strengths through the Holy Spirit?
  • In Matthew 5:44 Jesus says to love your enemies. Describe a situation in which you did or a situation in which you can practice loving your enemy as yourself.
  • How does your perspective of your workplace, grocery store, or neighborhood change if you view yourself as a missionary sent there specifically to love people?
  • 1 Corinthians 14:1 says love should be your highest goal and 1 Corinthians 12:7 says that spiritual gifts are given to help others.  What is one small, practical way you can use your gifts to love someone this week who usually goes unnoticed?
