The God-Centered God

This week marks the beginning of a new sermon series where we’ll be examining the Character of God. There are no greater questions that we can ask than, “Who is God, and how can I relate to Him?” Throughout this series we’ll hear from different pastors, addressing God’s kindness, love, compassion, fatherliness, generosity, justice, presence, and His very good news. Today we are asking the question, “What is the chief and highest end of God?” His highest, most pinnacle pursuit may not be what we expect, but it’s certainly very good for us. Let’s lean in and discover more about God together.

Discussion Questions

• Spend a few minutes brainstorming. Write down as many character traits of God as you can think of. Take a few minutes and share your testimony, emphasizing an aspect of God’s character as you speak.
• What are the benefits to knowing the character of God?
• Pastor Dan argued that the chief and highest end of God is to pursue His own glory. How does that make you feel? Why might that make us uncomfortable?
• Do you agree with Pastor Dan? If not, what do you feel is the chief and highest end of God?
• In what ways is it good for us for God to seek His own glory?
• What are some pitfalls of man-centered theology?

Respond Throughout the Week

Pray – Throughout your week, dedicate time to listening to and speaking with the Lord.	Read – Feed your soul with God’s Word daily. Review the scriptures used in the sermon. There is a link to a Bible reading guide on our website.
Journal – Write a summary of what you’re hearing from God every day. Capture things you’re hearing from Him.	Communion – If Jesus is your savior, consider taking the elements, at home, with your family, or Group. There is a communion guide on our website.
Salvation – Want to give your life to Jesus? Tell someone in your family or your Group.	Worship – Take time to thank God for who He is. Before asking or seeking, just be grateful, and tell your soul that it’s time to bless the Lord.
