What is the chief end of God? What’s God’s highest pursuit? The surprising answer is so good for us.
Listen + Watch the Message
(new sermons published every Monday)
This week marks the beginning of a new sermon series where we’ll be examining the Character of God. There are no greater questions that we can ask than, “Who is God, and how can I relate to Him?” Throughout this series we’ll hear from different pastors, addressing God’s kindness, love, compassion, fatherliness, generosity, justice, presence, and His very good news. Today we are asking the question, “What is the chief and highest end of God?” His highest, most pinnacle pursuit may not be what we expect, but it’s certainly very good for us. Let’s lean in and discover more about God together.
Scripture References from the Sermon
Isaiah 43:7 | Revelation 4:11 | Ephesians 1:11–12 | Romans 15:8–9 | Ephesians 1:14 | Philippians 1:6, 10-11 | Isaiah 48:9, 11 | Romans 9:15, 17 | John 17:1, 4-5 | 2 Thessalonians 1:10 | Revelation 19:6–7
Discussion Questions
- Spend a few minutes brainstorming. Write down as many character traits of God as you can think of. Take a few minutes and share your testimony, emphasizing an aspect of God’s character as you speak.
- What are the benefits to knowing the character of God?
- Pastor Dan argued that the chief and highest end of God is to pursue His own glory. How does that make you feel? Why might that make us uncomfortable?
- Do you agree with Pastor Dan? If not, what do you feel is the chief and highest end of God?
- In what ways is it good for us for God to seek His own glory?
- What are some pitfalls of man-centered theology?
