Finance Director

Monday – Thursday | 32 Hours

Job Purpose

The Finance Director will lead and be responsible for all financial and accounting processes and practices within the church. This leader will ensure that all financial practices are fully aligned with the purpose, strategy and vision of Grace Church, and that all related activities are performed in a manner which both supports the full ministry spectrum of the church but also ensures exceptional compliance and alignment with the tenants of sound stewardship and Christian values.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all financial processes within the church, including budgeting, forecasting, year-end processes, project expense management, audits, banking and Sage Intact financial practices
  • Will train, oversee and supervise a bookkeeper who will be responsible for accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, bookkeeping, the counters, counting process, and all aspects of congregational giving and recordkeeping etc.
  • Will work closely with the CPA oversight of Grace Church
  • Ensures thorough and timely administration, sound financial stewardship, and clear communication in all matters related to this position and this area of operation
  • Reviews monthly and year-end financial statements and verifies banking accuracy
  • Manages quarterly forecast processes and summarizes as appropriate. Ensures all internal departments are informed and in alignment.
  • Manages and executes Elders financial decisions as directed by the Executive Director.
  • Will provide financial insight and focus in decision-making for the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Elder team.
  • Liaison between the congregation and church leadership, handling non-ministry related issues that arise while managing all relationships appropriately.
  • Work with auditors to ensure sound and compliant accounting principles are in place throughout the operation
  • Provides general support and leads special projects as necessary
  • Responsible for ensuring sound investments of church funds
  • Signs certain contracts between the church and outside entities, ensuring proper and timely preparation.
  • Work with Executive Director all budget holders to ensure overall budget parameters are met

All Staff Responsibilities

  • Employees who work 20+ hours per week are required to work any “all hands on deck”
    events including Easter, Sunday, Christmas Eve etc.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading
    professional publications; and staying current on industry changes and trends
  • Stay up to date with all applicable process queues, forms, and data input into Gracelink
    for specific department

Required Character Attributes and Qualifications

Character

  • Born again and water baptized.
  • Have a life that reflects the teachings of Jesus (Matthew 5-7) and produces the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5)
  • Devoted to the basic disciplines of the faith – Worship, Prayer, and Tithing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field with at least five years of relevant work experience with experience in fund-accounting and financial reporting, Nonprofit experience, Masters Degree, and CPA preferred.
  • Experience as a ministry staff member and ministry leadership experience preferred.
  • Detailed knowledge, agreement, and adherence to Grace Church mission, vision and
    core values.
  • Self – motivated and organized with the ability to build, engage and lead a team of staff and volunteers
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a spirit of discernment and discretion.
