     We exist to Fill the City with Jesus. 

We empower the willing to come fully alive in God’s presence for the renewal of our cities.

  Imagine a group of people in an authentic community, loving each other honestly, covering each other’s sins with forgiveness, prayer, confession, and encouragement, and serving and supporting each other genuinely. It’s in spaces like these where we begin to see the supernatural work of God within our relationships. 

Use this guide with your community, in concert with the Field Journal, as you Strengthen Yourself in the Lord, Manage Your Household, and Fill the City with Jesus.

Strengthen Yourself in the Lord

Sermon Summary

Is God enough, or do we value His gifts more than His face? How easily do we distort the gospel, turning God into a mere tool to get heaven, peace, or purpose? 1 Peter 3:18 and John 17:3 remind us that God Himself is the gospel. Every good gift—family, career, provision—is meant to point us back to the Giver, serving as a means to know Him more deeply. Yet, when blessings become idols, our hearts grow cold. What do you truly treasure: Would heaven satisfy us if Christ were not there? True eternal life is not just escaping hell or gaining earthly blessings, but joyfully laying down everything for the supreme worth of knowing Jesus. Like the merchant seeking the pearl of great price, discovering God’s ultimate value transforms sacrifice into pure joy.

Discussion Questions

• Read 1 Peter 3:18 and John 17:3. The sermon highlighted how we often treat God as a means to our own ends rather than the ultimate end Himself. How have you seen this happen in your everyday life?
• Consider John Piper’s quote from the sermon: If you could have heaven with all its comforts, pleasures, and loved ones—but Christ was not there—would you still be satisfied? How does this question challenge your perspective on God?
• Read Matthew 13:44–46. The man didn’t sell everything out of obligation, but in his joy. Share with others about a time in your life when following Jesus felt like a joyful gain rather than a “grim sacrifice.”
• Even good gifts (family, career, health, ministry) can become idols when we desire them more than God. How do you spot when a good gift in your life is slowly taking the place of the Giver?
• Read Philippians 3:8–11. Paul frames his devotion as “bookkeeping”—counting former assets as losses in favor of the supreme value of knowing Jesus. What is one area of your life right now where you need to recalibrate your “bookkeeping” to put knowing God above everything else?

Manage Your Household 

Practical spiritual activities

• Worship together – Dedicate time each week to worship with those in your household.
• Pray together – Dedicate time each day for listening to and speaking with the Lord individually, and as a household. Record ongoing prayer requests into your journal or Field Journal.
• Intercede for one another – Ask those in your household what is on their heart, then pray for one another. Refer to “Prayer Requests From Our Community” below and prayer recorded in your Field Journal and pray together for your city.
• Read together – Spend time together reading God’s Word. Consider the Bible reading guide on our website.
• Journal & Share – Share insight from what you’ve been hearing from the Lord and capturing in your journal weekly.
• Take communion together – For those who are followers of Jesus, consider taking the elements together. There is a communion guide on our website.
