Jesus came so you can have abundant life. But past hurts, lies, and sin get in the way to experience all that God has given us. The Freedom Cycle is a four-step process rooted in the Bible that will help you replace lies and sin with the truth of God’s Word so you can experience freedom in Christ.

Take enough time to engage in prayer and seek God. Repeat the Freedom Cycle as often as necessary. God wants to meet you and set you free. Be honest as you pray: God honors humility and honesty.

Confess

God forgives the sins you confess to Him. Confession means agreement. When you confess to God and to others, you are coming into agreement with what’s really happening in your heart. Truth sets you free. 1 John 1:9 says when we confess to God, we are righteous, clean, and forgiven. James 5:16 says when you confess to your community, you are being healed.

Confess all past sins. Confess the sins of your parents, grandparents, and forefathers to break generational oppression and strongholds. (Exodus 34:7) Confessing their sins does not make you responsible for their actions, but it does free you from the consequences of their decisions. This

Pray This: “God, I confess the sins of my parents, grandparents, and forefathers, as well as my own sin in Jesus’ name.”

Confess all present sins. Confess the present sins that you know you have committed; the ones that God has shown you. If there isn’t a desire to hate the present sin, ask God for a desire for goodness, and a hatred towards your sin. (Romans 12:9)

“Pray This: God, I confess the sin of ___________________ . which I have committed. I ask for a desire to please You and not act on my ‘old self’ that leads me to death, but I ask for the power of Your Holy Spirit to be kept free and healed, in Jesus’ name.”

Forgive

UP — Once you confess your sin, begin asking for forgiveness from God. Your sin is against Him first and Him alone. (Psalm 51:4) We must realize our sin affects many, but its first offense is against our Father, as we are living differently than how we are designed. There is no forgiveness without blood.Pray This

Pray This: “God, I ask that You forgive my sin of ___________________ . I have sinned against You. Release me from sin’s consequences and curses through Jesus’ work on the cross. Set me fully alive in Jesus’ name!”

OUT – Our sin affects us and those around us, especially the ones who are closest to us. We must take responsibility for our actions. Consider meeting personally and ask for forgiveness if it’s needed. (Matthew 18:15 & 5:23) Forgiveness is an act of your will, a decision. Decide to forgive and be set free. When you’re ready, pray this:

“Pray This: God, give me the power to forgive those I have judged, hurt, or influenced from the sin of ___________________ . I want to forgive them now and ask that they would forgive me of my sin.”

IN – With the power of God’s forgiveness now in you, you can begin to forgive yourself. No more looking down on yourself, no more criticizing, and no more belittling the very image God has made fearfully and wonderfully.

Pray This: “God, on the basis of your forgiveness, I release forgiveness over myself from the consequences and curses caused by my sin of ___________________ in Jesus’ name!”

Empty

The enemy’s strategy is for you to accept sin as familiar, so that he can destroy you subtly. This step is to evict the destructive influence in your life that is keeping you from being fully free and healed Confession and forgiveness release the legal hold the enemy has on your heart, now we will remove the oppressive nature of sin in order to walk in the boldness of your new life.

Pray This: “Jesus, as my Lord, my Savior, and my authority, I renounce and break all agreement with my strongholds of ___________________ . I take the authority you have given me by faith in your Blood, and command the stronghold, sin, and associated consequences and curses to leave me now based on the life, the cross, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Leave now and go where Jesus tells you, in Jesus’ name.”

Fill

When we empty out areas of our soul from the enemy’s influences, we create open spaces that now need to be filled with the resources of heaven: Truth, a Promise, The Holy Spirit, grace, and love! His Word says we have all the promises He has offered and it’s time to receive them.
List off some Scriptures, and truth promises from the Word that will replace the lies that you can begin meditating on.

If you don’t have any that comes to mind that you could replace and begin to meditate on, then sit in the Presence of God right now and ask what He would like to give you instead of the lies and wounds you emptied out.

Pray This: “Jesus You said You would baptize me with fire and the Holy Spirit. Set me ablaze and fill me up with Your Holy Spirit. Load up my mind with Your Truth. Saturate my heart, so I may know You personally. Give me a new heart and a new spirit inside of me.”
